I wanted to broaden my knowledge of Houdini and the new Terrain and Hierarchical Scattering features seemed the most interesting topics to get my hands dirty with, so I came up with a small set of utility nodes that speed up terrain setup.
-The Heightfield Base Setup node helps with the base setup of the terrain, adding and removing volume from the heightfield, and filling it with noise to give a basic shape.
-The Heightfield Erosion Toolkit offers a set of different, pre-made erosion settings based on existing climates, as well as a fully customizable one. It also offers an optional wind mask to modulate precipitation mask
-The Heightfield Scatter Toolkit takes advantage of the new Hierarchical Scatter system introduced in Houdini 17. It accepts Boulders, Rocks, Trees, Bushes, Plants and Debris groups and automatically generates the weight parameters needed to scatter them, as well as the correspondant interface parameters to tune them in real-time
